The Junior Division asks for space mission ideas (satellites, rockets, sub-orbital flights, lunar/planetary exploration, ISS use, onboard instruments) with a clear rationale for doing them in space and a feasibility check, ideally supported by hands-on simple experiments. About 10-15 entries across all divisions pass the document round; Junior finalists prepare a poster and give a short presentation at the final, receiving reviewer comments to improve their work. Prizes include the MEXT Minister's Award (best overall entry), the Junior Grand Prize and awards from the co-hosting societies.
