Teams choose a theme from the 'four perspectives' of energy education (stable energy supply, global warming and energy, diverse energy sources and their characteristics, and energy conservation/society) and summarise their research in a free format such as slides, posters, illustrations, photos or video. Entries are judged on theme setting, use of objective evidence and clarity; at the final each team gives a 10-minute presentation with Q&A, and the best team in each of the junior high and high school sections receives a certificate and shield, coverage on Yomiuri Shimbun Online and an invitation to present to ANRE officials. All finalist teams receive participation prizes.
