Competition · In person
A Kanazawa University team contest in which high school students use mathematics and English to propose solutions to a realistic global problem; top teams are recommended as Japan's representatives to Mathematics A-day in the Netherlands. The 10th contest has not been announced; registration for the 9th closed on 31 Oct 2026.
Unlike the Mathematical Olympiad, the A-lympiad is a team event: 3–4 students from the same school read an English problem set against a current global issue and write a report proposing a better solution using mathematics. It tests problem finding, collaboration, logical report writing and English. Awards: Grand Prize (1 team), Excellence Award (1 team) and about 8 Merit Awards; Merit Award winners and above gain eligibility for Kanazawa University's Chōzen special admission (A-lympiad selection). Top teams are recommended to Mathematics A-day in the Netherlands, where the team sent from the 8th contest won in March 2026.
