The preliminary is held at each participating school; about 30 teams advance to the final at the University of Aizu, and other teams join the parallel "another final" (もうひとつの本選). Through a partnership with the Japanese Olympiad in Informatics (JOI), final participants receive benefits. Winners receive certificates and prizes.
