Overview

Interns work in an NIH Intramural Research Program group under a Principal Investigator (PI), with access to professional development and research events. Projects may involve biology, engineering, psychology, mathematics, computing or related health-research fields. Interns cannot be placed in administrative offices or outside the intramural program. The appointment must fall within May 10–Aug 31, 2027, but exact start and end dates are agreed with the selecting investigator. This is full-time work; summer classes, vacations and other responsibilities cannot overlap work hours. Individual investigators select and fund interns, rather than a single central selection committee.
