A free five-day geology and technology camp for four Oregon/Washington high-school mentors, combining field science, student leadership and team presentations.
GeoGirls is a five-day, four-night field-science camp at Mount St. Helens run by the Mount St. Helens Institute and USGS Cascades Volcano Observatory. Four high-school mentors join middle-school teams in geoscience activities and student leadership, working with adult teacher mentors, scientists and staff. Activities include hiking, data collection, volcano monitoring and a volcanic-crisis simulation. High-school mentors lead morning/evening group checklists, debrief research activities, organize group presentations and help design the final StoryMap/poster presentation for families. They model respect for self, others and place and support the camp community. This is the educational high-school mentor track, separate from the younger camper and adult teacher/scientist roles. Drop-off and pickup are at Cascades Volcano Observatory in Vancouver, Washington; the overnight base is the Science and Learning Center at Coldwater, with visits around Mount St. Helens. The exact 2027 dates will be published in December 2026.
