WTP-ME has about 20 places and usually receives over 300 applications. Participants live in MIT dorms and take classes Monday–Friday from about 9:30 am to 5:00 pm, plus some evening and weekend activities and field trips. The curriculum covers the engineering design process in mechanical engineering, with team projects of 2–4 students. It is a women-focused community that especially welcomes students with limited STEM access, first-generation students and students from low-income families. It gives no school credit.
