How to read a program listing on Choices

Every program on Choices has a listing page with the same set of facts, so you can compare programs quickly. Here is how to read one, using the Research Science Institute (RSI) at Stanford in 2027 as an example.
The top of the listing
You see the program name, the organizer (Center for Excellence in Education) and the kind of program (research), followed by a short description. For RSI, that is a selective six-week residential research program with a mentored project. Tuition, housing and meals are covered.
Who can apply
This line says who is eligible: a grade, an age, a country, or a mix. RSI says "Grade 11, age 16 or older." If you do not fit, move on to the next program.
Deadline
You see the date and how many days are left. RSI closes on Dec 11, 2026, which was 42 days away on Oct 30, 2026. Programs closing today are marked, so you can spot them fast.
Program dates and where
These tell you when and where the program happens. RSI runs from Jun 27, 2027 to Aug 7, 2027 in Stanford, California. Check the dates against your school year and your travel plans before you commit.
Cost
This is the cost the organizer publishes. The RSI domestic application has a nonrefundable $75 fee before an approved waiver. Some programs charge their own fees, so always read this line.
Checked at the source
Every listing names the organizer's official page and the date an editor last checked it. RSI says "Checked Oct 15, 2026 against cee.org." An editor reads the organizer's official page and records the date, and the listing links to that page so you can check the source yourself.
What "Needs confirmation" means
If the organizer has not published a condition yet, the listing says "Needs confirmation." It does not mean the program is bad. It means you should check the official page before you apply.
Apply on the organizer's site
Choices shows you where and when to apply. The application itself happens on the organizer's website, using the link on the listing.
