The SMO has run under different names since the 1950s and has been called the SMO since 2001. It tests ingenuity and mathematical problem solving and aims to discover mathematical talent in Singapore schools. The registration form records whether each student is a Singapore citizen or PR to support IMO training selection. By registering, participants agree that SMS may publish their names.
