A free national ocean olympiad for middle school students: entrants submit an ocean research proposal, and finalists join a residential final camp in Busan where they write and present a research poster.
The olympiad asks students to look at the sea from any angle (science and technology, economy and industry, society and culture, politics and diplomacy, climate and environment, arts and leisure) and propose creative ideas. The preliminary task is a research proposal on a set theme; at the final camp, students write and present an academic poster on a problem announced on day two. Prizes include the Pacific Prize (Minister of Oceans and Fisheries award, 2 million KRW) and 18 awards in total worth 11.4 million KRW, plus teacher and school awards. Use of generative AI must be documented in a prompt log.
