Kosen Procon has three divisions: Theme (課題部門, 2026 theme: improving work efficiency with ICT), Free (自由部門, any original software) and Competition (競技部門, an algorithm battle). The preliminary round is document screening, so an idea can be submitted before the system is complete. Top teams receive the MEXT Minister's Award and young-researcher awards from IPSJ and IEICE; finalists may be nominated to DCON or 起業家甲子園, and Competition-division winners in year 2 or below are invited to the Japanese Olympiad in Informatics final.
