IYSB has four directions: Almaty Math Battles (AMB), Youth Physics Battles (YPhB), First Informatics Battles (FIB) and First Chemical Battles (FChB). In the battles, teams present solutions, oppose rivals and defend their reasoning in public scientific debate. Languages are Kazakh, Russian and English, and tasks are set by olympiad medalists.
