Yokohama High School Study-Abroad Grant "Hamakko Ryugaku Support" FY2027

Yokohama City covers up to half of study-abroad costs for local high school students: up to 1.5 million yen for long-term (90-365 days) and up to 200,000 yen for short-term (7-89 days) study abroad, with any destination accepted.

Formerly the Yokohama 'Young People Aiming for the World' programme (until FY2025). The long-term course (about 25 students in FY2026) supports regular attendance at an overseas upper-secondary school for 90-365 days; the short-term course (about 75 students) supports 7-89 day programmes. Eligible costs include economy airfare, domestic travel to the airport, taxes, visa and passport fees, tuition, insurance, and boarding or homestay. Recipients share their experience after returning.
