The annual interstate science fair of the Birla Industrial and Technological Museum (National Council of Science Museums) for school students up to Class XII from the states and Union Territories of Eastern India. Students qualify through district and state fairs and show their own models.
Students conceive ideas and build science projects and prototype models from low-cost and local materials that offer practical solutions to society's needs. They first take part at district level, then state level, and finally in the interstate EISF; only winners at each level move up. Four Work Experience Camps are held with the EISF, and prizes and scholarships are awarded to winning projects. The 2024 Kolkata district fair suggested sub-themes such as food, health and hygiene, transport, natural farming, disaster management, mathematical modelling, waste and resource management.
