Student teams of two (with a guide teacher) aged 10 to 17 carry out a science project on a local issue and compete at district and state level in Karnataka, with the best state teams recommended to the national Children's Science Congress of DST, Government of India.
NCSC is a flagship programme of the Department of Science and Technology (NCSTC). Teams of two students under one guide teacher investigate a local problem through observation, experiments and data collection. The 2026-27 sub-themes were waste management (R5), energy (E4), water, food-agriculture-health, and Indian knowledge systems for sustainability. In Karnataka KSCST (Indian Institute of Science campus, Bengaluru) coordinates the district and state rounds. The pathway is district, then state, then national.
