Olimpiade · Tatap muka
Japan's national mathematics olympiad, which selects the six-member team for the International Mathematical Olympiad. The 2026 entry window has closed; the foundation plans to publish the 38th JMO guidelines in early May 2027 and hold the preliminary in November 2027.
The JMO preliminary is a 3-hour test with 12 short-answer questions (no calculus, probability/statistics or matrices). About 200 top scorers (A rank) advance to the 4-hour, 5-problem proof-based final. The roughly 20 JMO prize winners in high school grade 2 or below, plus top JJMO winners, attend the selection camp, and 6 students are chosen for the IMO (IMO 2027: Hungary). The Japan Girls' Mathematical Olympiad (JGMO) uses the same preliminary; top female scorers in high school grade 2 or below sit the JGMO final, and 4 are chosen for the European Girls' Mathematical Olympiad (EGMO). A and B rank results can be used in some universities' special admissions.
