Tobitate! is a public-private study-abroad scholarship run by MEXT and JASSO. Students choose one of four courses - STEAM inquiry (140 places), sports and arts inquiry (120), 'my curiosity' inquiry (210) or social-issues inquiry (130) - and propose a study-abroad plan built around their own question. Awardees join pre- and post-departure training, act as ambassadors abroad and share their experience after returning. A regional quota gives priority to the top 5 applicants in prefectures with 15 or more applicants.
