SSP is one of the oldest residential STEM programs in the U.S. Each site hosts about 36 participants who spend five weeks doing collaborative research with faculty, with no grades or tests. Tracks: Astrophysics (tracking a near-Earth asteroid), Biochemistry, Bacterial Genomics and Cell Biology. In 2026 about 700 participants were admitted. SSP encourages applications from students underrepresented in STEM, first-generation students and students from rural areas.
