SRMIST's Department of Chemistry runs an annual Crystal Growing Challenge in which teams of four grow single crystals, with a chemistry quiz for higher secondary students. The 5th edition was held on 31 October 2026; the next is not announced.

Teams of four grow and showcase single crystals; a General Chemistry/Everyday Chemistry quiz is held for higher secondary students.
