Entrants photograph a living organism in the wild (smartphone photos are fine; no composites; taken within the past year), research the species, write the organism's imagined one-line 'murmur' and a 200-400 character essay on why they imagined it and how people can coexist with other living things. The society union's 'Earth Biology Project' committee selects Excellence Awards, which receive a commemorative gift and a 5,000-yen book card; winning works are published on the Seikaren website.
