A free, year-long Saitama University program for science-minded high school students, with monthly specialist seminars, study alongside international and university students, and research support, leading to a selective advanced research course.
HiGEPS-STAR (High-grade Global Education Program in Science, with Society, Technology, Arts, and Research) is Saitama University's JST STELLA program. The first-year Basic Course (about 40 students) offers monthly seminars across mathematics, informatics, physics, chemistry, biology, earth science, engineering and environment, global education with international students, field visits, and training in reports, debate and presentations, including artistic approaches and entrepreneurship. About 10 students go on to the Advanced Course for supervised research and short overseas training. Unselected applicants may join seminars as auditors.
