North Carolina's state contest of National History Day (NHD), run by the North Carolina Department of Natural and Cultural Resources: middle- and high-school students present history research projects on the 2027 theme "Innovation in History: Impact, Influence, Change" and the top entries advance to the national contest.
Students research a topic connected to the annual theme and present it as a paper, exhibit, documentary, performance or website, individually or in groups (except papers). Judges evaluate historical quality and connection to the theme; top senior- and junior-division entries qualify for the National History Day contest at the University of Maryland, College Park, in June 2027.
