A competitive $5,000 total grant package for a high-school student or team’s one-year environmental experiment, including $2,500 for project costs and a required mentor.
The Marjot Foundation funds student-designed environmental field or laboratory research. This is a financial grant application for an independent project, with an active teacher or scientist mentor, rather than admission to a scheduled research course. The grant package totals $5,000: $1,000 to the recipient(s), $2,500 for the project, $1,000 to the mentor and $500 to the school science department. The recipient portion is split into $500 at the beginning and $500 on completion; it is not $5,000 in personal spending money. Public high-school proposals receive preference, while private-school students may apply. A portion of grants has opened to students across the United States since spring 2026. The current template lets the student choose the actual site, including school/research lab, business, home, backyard or a field location anywhere; confirm the proposed site, safety and school/guardian arrangements. Students must participate in a science fair and provide a midyear report and a final report covering the scientific method.
