Design a research project on a flexible timeline with an individual academic mentor, from a literature review to original-data research.
Indigo’s individual virtual mentorship matches high-school students with a faculty mentor or PhD teaching fellow after a profile and research-interest assessment. Students develop a question, examine academic sources, build a bibliography and research plan, write and revise their own work, and receive feedback. The program offers three levels within one mentorship route: Explorer provides 10 mentor hours over about three months for a literature review or short academic essay; Researcher provides 20 hours over about six months for secondary-source research; Innovator provides 45 hours over about 12 months for primary-source research with original-data support. Researcher includes three publication-support hours within its total and guidance for two journal submissions; Innovator includes six and guidance for three. Science-fair coaching is an optional add-on. Publication and competition results are goals rather than promises. The student can review mentor recommendations and request an alternative.
