Choices now covers Japan, in English and Japanese

Choices Japan cover image.

Choices now covers Japan. We added 227 programs for high school students, every one available in English and Japanese, and 60 of them are open for applications right now.

Japan is one of six new countries added to Choices.

What's new

Students in Japan can now browse competitions, research programs, scholarships and more in one place, in the language they prefer. Each listing links to the organizer's official page.

Many upcoming programs have not announced a deadline yet, so they show the most recent cycle until the new dates are published.

What's inside

  • 227 programs in total
  • 60 open now and 167 upcoming
  • By type: 91 competitions, 36 research programs, 26 summer schools, 24 scholarships, 23 leadership programs, 13 olympiads, 11 grants and 3 work-experience programs
  • 73 programs do not state a fee on their pages, so their funding is marked as unconfirmed

Deadlines to watch

  • Kibo-RPC closes Nov 4
  • Bebras closes Nov 9
  • 8 upcoming programs open between now and Dec 15

What is next

We will re-check Japan in mid-November, in early December, and from January to May 2027. We are still looking for internships open to students under 18 and for programs in more prefectures.
