A non-repayable scholarship from the Grew Bancroft Foundation, with partner-college tuition waivers, for Japanese high-school seniors going to small US liberal-arts colleges. The 2027 call has not been announced; the 2026 call (for fall 2027 entry) accepted applications 1 July - 7 September 2026.
Founded in 1928 and named after two pre-war US ambassadors to Japan, the foundation has sent more than 300 scholars to about 50 small residential US liberal-arts colleges. In the 2026 call there were four scholarship types: up to USD 80,000 a year for a college of the scholar's choice (1 place); USD 15,000 a year plus partner-college tuition waivers (3); up to USD 12,000 a year or room and board at partner colleges (5); and the Sutematsu Scholarship for women, up to USD 65,000 a year (1). Selection as a scholar gives the right to apply with the foundation's recommendation and does not guarantee admission.
