Korea's national mathematical olympiad run by the Korean Mathematical Society, with junior and senior divisions; it is the first step toward the Korean team for the International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO).
The KMO has a first round (May), a second round (November) and a final round (March), followed by summer and winter schools and correspondence courses for top scorers. The first round is a 150-minute exam of 20 short-answer questions covering geometry, number theory, functions, inequalities and combinatorics. National and regional awards are given; the senior division also has the Euler award for students outside science and gifted high schools. Strong first-round results earn a place in the second round, the summer school and the autumn correspondence course. Students who want to be considered for the Korean IMO team must sit the senior division.
