KYWA runs the Korean edition of the Duke of Edinburgh's International Award, a self-paced programme in which 14-24 year olds set goals in service, skills, physical recreation and an adventurous journey to earn Bronze, Silver or Gold awards. Enrolment is year-round through local Award centres.
Founded in 1956 by the Duke of Edinburgh and run in about 130 countries, the Award is an internationally recognised self-development programme. In Korea participants choose activities in service, skills (self-development), physical recreation, adventurous journey and, at Gold, a residential project. Completers receive certificates from the International Award Foundation and the KYWA chair, and outstanding participants can receive minister's awards.
