A national award founded after the 1995 Great Hanshin-Awaji Earthquake that recognises outstanding disaster-prevention education and activities by school and community groups, with separate Junior High and High School divisions. The Grand Prix carries a 200,000-yen prize.

Entries cover activities that protect lives and livelihoods from natural disasters, including support for disaster-hit areas, and are judged on local relevance, originality, initiative and continuity by a committee chaired by Yoshiaki Kawata. Awards (2026 plan): Grand Prix (200,000 yen), Bousai Grand Award for each division (100,000 yen), Excellence and Encouragement Awards, plus themed prizes such as the UR Resilience Award, Earthquake Preparedness Award and Frontier Award for first-time applicants. Supported by the Cabinet Office, the Fire and Disaster Management Agency, MEXT and MLIT.
