The national proof-based olympiads for top AIME scorers; the top performers move on to the Mathematical Olympiad Program and IMO team selection.
Each competition has two days with three problems per day and 4.5 hours per day. Full written proofs are required, and each problem is scored 0–7 (42 maximum). USAMO awards Gold, Silver and Bronze to about 6%, 12% and 18% of participants; USAJMO gives Top Honors and Honors to about 7% and 13%. Any participant with 14 or more points who did not win a higher award gets Honorable Mention.
