The prize covers theoretical and applied research that tackles water problems such as floods and droughts, water quality, water-resource management, conservation and purification, using scientifically sound methods; social field-activity projects are also welcome. After document screening, the top few teams give a short English overview and a 10-minute presentation with Q&A in Tokyo. Awards: Grand Prix (certificate, 200,000 yen and participation in the international contest), Excellence Award and Jury Special Award (100,000 yen each). At the international contest, finalists present to an international jury; in 2025 the winner received USD 15,000.
