A one-hour, 25-question multiple-choice physics paper that is the first selection stage for the UK team for the International Physics Olympiad and the gateway to BPhO Round 1. The 2027 date is not yet announced; Round 0 2026 was sat on 1 October 2026.

A non-calculator paper of 25 multiple-choice questions mixing knowledge, calculation, elimination and problem solving, from middling A level to harder extension questions. Successful candidates are invited to Round 1, which has been reduced to 1,500-2,000 entries.
