SCVSEFA's championship follows ISEF rules. Middle-school projects must be done at school, home or in the field; high-school projects may be done at a regulated research institution with a PhD-level supervisor. Judges interview students for 8–10 minutes; winners advance to the California Science & Engineering Fair and may be nominated for Regeneron ISEF 2027 in Los Angeles.
