Japan Linguistics Olympiad 2027 (JOL 2027)
Japan's national linguistics olympiad: an online contest of language-analysis puzzles that selects Japan's team for the Asia-Pacific Linguistics Olympiad and the International Linguistics Olympiad 2027 in Thailand. Registration is open until 15 December 2026.

Linguistics olympiad problems are puzzles that ask you to work out how an unfamiliar language works from scratch, using logic and curiosity. JOL is a 2-hour online contest with about 5 problems. Awards from top prize to honorable mention are given in each track, and the selection track adds junior, regional and school awards. Top selection-track contestants are invited to the 5-hour APLO, and the top 8 in Japan (who agree to join the committee's group trip) become the IOL Japan team.
