Chemistry Grand Prix has been held every year since 1999. About 80 top scorers from the first round go on to a 3-day camp with a written exam that includes lab experiments, at least one from each of 7 regional blocks. The top 5 receive the Grand Prize, followed by gold, silver and bronze awards. About 20 students, drawn from Grand Prix participants in junior high grade 3 and high school grades 1-2 and from students nominated by CSJ branches, are recommended as candidates for the next year's International Chemistry Olympiad (IChO). Some universities have special admission routes for top performers.
