Candidates are decided before entry and formally awarded after passing a designated Rikkyo entrance exam (general, Common Test-based, free-selection, international course, athlete, returnee, designated-school or affiliated-school routes) and enrolling. About 500 candidates are planned (300 in Round 1 and 200 in Round 2). Grants continue for four years subject to annual review of grades and income. From 2027 entry it replaces the discontinued GLAP scholarship for new students.
