The National High School Cultural Federation's national creative-writing competition in seven divisions: fiction, literary criticism, essay, poetry, tanka, haiku and literary club magazines.
Organized by the National High School Cultural Federation to raise interest in the power and possibilities of Japanese expression and to promote creative writing in schools. Divisions (2026 limits): fiction (up to 2 works, 30 manuscript pages), literary criticism (up to 3, 20 pages), essay (up to 3, 10 pages), poetry (up to 3), tanka (3-10 poems), haiku (3-10 haiku) and literary club magazines (1 per school). Awards include the Federation President's Prizes in each division, the MEXT Minister's Prize, Yomiuri Shimbun Prizes and others; top works are published in the national anthology.
