Organized by the Japan Federation of Architects and Building Engineers Associations and the 47 prefectural associations, supported by the National Association of Technical High School Principals, MLIT and the Architectural Institute of Japan. The 2026 theme was a nature-friendly building for 15 people rooted in the local community (judging chair: architect Toshito Yokouchi). About one third of each prefecture's entries go to the national round; around 10 works reach the final, judged from 5-minute presentation videos. Prizes in 2026: winner 100,000 yen, runner-up 70,000 yen, special prizes 50,000-60,000 yen, excellence prizes 30,000 yen and encouragement prizes 10,000 yen.
