A state scholarship test by JBNSTS (Government of West Bengal) for students who passed Class 12 in 2026 and will study Science (Hons.), BS-MS, Engineering or Medicine in West Bengal. Selected scholars get Rs 4,000 a month plus a Rs 5,000 annual book grant for four or five years.
The Senior Scholarship is JBNSTS's core programme, running since 1958. The test is a 3-hour MCQ paper of 90 marks in which candidates answer any 3 of 4 sections (Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, Biology; 15 questions of 2 marks each, 0.5 negative marking). It is followed by an interview and a Scientific Creativity Test. Senior scholars receive Rs 4,000 per month and a Rs 5,000 annual book grant for four or five years (till completion of B.Sc. (Hons.), B.Tech/BE, MBBS, BS-MS, M.Sc or B.Stat-M.Stat), enrichment programmes, seminars, science camps and research projects. The Senior Bigyani Kanya Medha Britti is the girls-only award supported by the Department of Science and Technology and Biotechnology, Government of West Bengal.
