Japan's largest English speech contest for junior high students: students write and memorise their own 5-minute English speech, compete in prefectural contests and the top representatives go to the national stage in Tokyo. The 2027 (79th) guidelines are not yet published.
Free-topic original speeches in English (5 minutes, no props). The top 3 in each prefecture (5 in Tokyo, Osaka, Kanagawa, Hokkaido; 4 in Aichi, Fukuoka) advance; 27 finalists compete for the Prince Takamado Trophy. Prizes include the Yomiuri Shimbun Cup, JNSA Foundation Cup, a free Toshin Global English Camp for the top 5, and embassy awards with study trips (Ireland, Australia). Generative-AI speeches are not allowed.
