A Texas high-school essay contest on an individual, organization or movement that made positive contributions to Texas history or culture, with state finalists honored at the UIL State Academic Meet.
Founded in 1995 by The University of Texas at Austin and run by UIL Academics since 2011–12, the competition asks students to start with their local communities when choosing a subject. Judges nominate state finalists; UIL awards state champions by conference, and finalists may apply for Texas Interscholastic League Foundation (TILF) scholarships.
