Both contests have up to 5 algorithmic programming tasks in 5 hours, in C++17 or Python 3, following the IOI syllabus; NOI is open-book with printed materials. Any number of students per school can sit the online preliminary, proctored by the school. The top five per school and category, plus the top female contestant, are invited to the onsite final, where about half of finalists win gold, silver or bronze medals. Top finalists join the IOI/EGOI training team; female students hoping for EGOI must take the preliminary onsite at NUS.
