Write 700–1,000 words analyzing one act by one US elected official who served during or after 1917; the act itself must also be in or after 1917. Explain the obstacles, political risks and consequences, using at least five sources, parenthetical citations and a bibliography. A nominating teacher reviews the essay for improvement and contest compliance. Originality and thoughtful subject choice matter: common subjects and past-winning topics may score lower.
