A small, grade-blind scholarship from the University of Tokyo RCAST's LEARN lab that gives young people under 18 who keep pursuing something up to 100,000 yen of in-kind support (equipment, services, fees or travel) for a year.
Most scholarships require good grades, good conduct or social contribution; LEARN ONE instead backs young people who 'keep doing, keep thinking, keep caring about' something, even if no one else recognises it. About five scholars are chosen per call. Support of up to 100,000 yen is provided as goods or services procured through the University of Tokyo (not cash) and can be kept after the scholarship ends. The scholarship provides money only, not coaching, chaperoning or arrangements. LEARN also runs separate 'programme-participation' scholarships.
